At NYX Professional Makeup we've always stood loudly for anyone in need of an ally.

To walk the talk, we’re excited to launch PROUDLY PRO-YOU.

In partnership with UK Black Pride and Stonewall, PROUDLY PRO-YOU was created to drive concrete change and reflects our ongoing commitment to support, represent and celebrate the talents of LGBTQIA+ people of colour.

OUR PARTNERSHIP

Our role as an ally is to be the microphone, not the script. We listen and learn, and then use our resources
and platform to create and protect safe spaces and places where LGBTQIA+ people of colour can
create, perform and express themselves freely.

Europe’s largest pride celebration for LGBTQIA+ people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Latin American and Middle Eastern-descent, and is a safe space to celebrate diverse sexualities, gender identities, gender expressions and cultures.

HOW WE'RE SUPPORTING

FUNDING RESEARCH & DIRECT COMMUNITY ACTION

WE FUNDED UK BLACK PRIDE'S
WE 'WILL BE HEARD' SURVEY

UK Black Pride’s inaugural community survey explores the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people of colour in the UK, who are often overlooked in national LGBTQIA+ surveys. The research and report were supported by Stonewall and reveal concerning data about life in the UK for LGBTQIA+ people of colour.

WE ARE FUNDING UK BLACK PRIDE'S
FIRST COMMUNITY ACTION PLAN

UK Black Pride’s Community Action Plan is a direct response to the findings in 'We Will Be Heard', and will see grants distributed to organisations working to support LGBTQIA+ people of colour across four thematic areas;
1) Mental and emotional health
2) Spaces places and visibility
3) Safety in public spaces
4) The workplace

INVESTING IN IMPROVING
'SPACES, PLACES & VISIBILITY'

Together with UK Black Pride, we identified 'Spaces, Places & Visibility' as our focus area, where we both
believe we can leverage our brand strengths and investment to make a difference. Through both ongoing
cash donations and dedication of our brand voice and reach, here's how we want to drive change in this area:

SUPPORTING SPACES & PLACES THROUGH COMMUNITY GRANTS:

THE INSIGHT

Only 25% of survey respondents felt that their local LGBTQIA+ space is welcoming for Black people & people of colour, far less than the 67% of white LGBTQIA+ people, surveyed by LGBT in Britain, who found their local LGBTQIA+ community welcoming.

OUR ACTIONS

Through the Community Action Plan our funding will provide grants for LGBTQIA+ POC owned spaces to ensure they can continue to thrive, with an emphasis on art, entertainment, and music. We'll also dedicate our brand platforms to ensure our community are aware of these spaces.

THE INSIGHT

Survey respondents emphasised that they would like any future events, spaces and services organised by UK Black Pride to be more inclusive (19%), especially of Asian and Asian British respondents, and those living outside London and other major urban areas.

OUR ACTIONS

Through the Community Action plan our funding will provide grants to fund events, spaces and services outside of London and other major urban areas. We will also work to amplify existing UK Black Pride events and programming to reach a larger audience.

INCREASING VISIBILITY THROUGH OUR BRAND VOICE & PLATFORMS

THE INSIGHT

4 in 5 (82%) of respondents said they do not feel represented by LGBTQI+ media in the UK, let alone in the media at large.

OUR ACTIONS

We reaffirm our commitment to support and celebrate the talents of LGBTQIA+ people of colour and are proud to take a number of steps to improve representation. Read on to discover our commitments.

CELEBRATING AND PROMOTING DIVERSE LGBTQIA+ CREATIVES

UK Black Pride has a long history of supporting talent from within the communities they serve and we're proud to offer another stage for these talents to express themselves. Meet five rising creatives from within the community, we're passing them the mic - so they can drop it. We'll continue to support them throughout the year and we hope you will, too.

WE'LL GO FURTHER BY:

1. Giving a spotlight to at least one person of colour from the LGBTQIA+ community each month on our instagram @nyxcosmetics_uk. Giving them the chance to take over our channel to encourage community, connection and opportunity.

2.Ensure LGBTQIA+ people of colour representation for all content & production in the UK & Ireland.

3. Ensuring across our UK & Ireland social channels that we have 40% representation for people of colour and 10% LGBTQIA+ recognising intersectionality. Always paying fairly for equal work.

OUR CONTINUED COMMITMENTS TO OUR COMMUNITY
